The Murray Insurance Agency began operations in the spring of 1944 following the acquisition of the E.C. Jones Agency by Guy Billington and Owen Billington.  The agency was initially managed and operated by Guy Billington.  Owen Billington became actively involved in the agency in October of 1949.

In June of 1958, Bob Billington became associated with the agency while completing his degree in business administration at Murray State University.  In January 1960, Bob became a partner in the firm.  The agency was incorporated on March 5, 1962 with Guy Billington serving as its first president and general manager.

Here is a time line of our agents:

∙ On November 15, 1967, Dan Shipley joined the agency as a licensed agent.

∙ In February 1982, Bob Billington was elected President of the agency and held that position until 2003.

∙ In 1986, Guy Billington and Owen Billington retired from active involvement in the agency.

∙ In March of 1986 Robert Billington, Jr. became affiliated with the agency and was elected an officer of the agency in 1990.

∙ In July of 1996 Jason Billington became affiliated with the agency and was elected an officer of the agency in 1998.

∙ In 1998 after 31 years with The Murray Insurance Agency, Dan Shipley retired.    

∙ In February of 1998 John Nix Purdom became affiliated with the agency and was elected an officer of the agency in 1999.   

∙ In 2003, Bob Billington stepped down as president of The Murray Insurance Agency and passed the torch to Robert Billington, Jr. John Nix Purdom serves as vice president and Jason Billington as secretary.

∙ In August of 2004, The Murray Insurance Agency will celebrate its 60th Anniversary.  It has been a pleasure to serve our many clients in Murray-Calloway County and surrounding areas.  We want to continue to serve for the next 60 years.

∙ In February of 2006, Bob Billington retired after having served in the agency for nearly 48 years.
